What’s new in Synapse

New things you can do, better ways to do the things you already do, a new look, and the work underneath that keeps your data safe and the app fast. Newest first.

  1. New

Synapse for iPhone, iPad and Mac, in private testing

The same account, the same workspaces and the same live sync, in apps made for Apple devices. They are being tested privately and are not on the App Store yet.

    • Today, tasks, projects, inbox, meetings and reminders, with swipe actions and notifications on your device.
    • Ask Nova answers questions about your work with an AI that runs on your own phone or Mac. Prompts never reach our servers.
    • Your last tasks, notes and meetings stay readable when the connection drops. Changes need a connection.
    • Light and dark themes that follow your device.
    • Notes can be read and searched in the apps; writing them stays on the web for now.
  2. New

Siri, a Today widget and Share to Synapse

Three ways to use Synapse without opening it first, on iPhone and iPad.

    • Say “Add a task in Synapse”, or ask “What’s due in Synapse”, and get the answer spoken back.
    • A home-screen widget shows what is overdue or due today.
    • In any app, tap Share, then Save to Synapse: the text or link is in your Inbox next time you open Synapse.
    • The widget and the share sheet never see your sign-in.
  3. New look

Meet Nova, and a new app icon

Nova, Synapse’s helper, now greets you in the apps, and the app icon is the Synapse network you see on this site.

    • Nova waves hello while Synapse loads, and cheers when your day is ready.
    • In Ask she thinks while she looks through your work and talks while the answer is written.
    • She sits beside the sign-in, and empty lists show her instead of a blank line.
    • With Reduce Motion turned on, she stays still.
    • The new icon on iPhone, iPad and Mac is the glowing Synapse network.
  4. ImprovedNew look

Easier to read and use in the apps

The apps follow your accessibility settings and are checked by automated tests for readable text and comfortable touch targets.

    • Text follows your large-text setting, and layouts stack instead of squeezing the words.
    • VoiceOver reads each task as one item, with its own button to finish it.
    • Every text colour is tested for readable contrast in both the light and the dark theme.
    • Buttons have a comfortable touch size, and Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast are respected.
  5. Under the hood

    Safer note saving across devices

When a note is saved from another app or device while it is open in your browser, your browser now switches to the new text instead of risking saving the old text back over it.

    • Anything you had typed but not saved is kept as a draft, and one click puts it back.
    • An open browser that has not noticed yet can no longer write its old text back: the database refuses it.
    • Every save still keeps its own version, so nothing is lost.
  6. New

GitHub progress: your commits move your tasks

Link a repository and Synapse reads your own commits and pull requests. Your local AI compares them with your open tasks and suggests which ones have started or are done.

    • Nothing changes until you accept. Every suggestion links to the commits or pull request behind it.
    • Only your own work is kept, and the token is read-only and stored encrypted.
    • Suggestions show up in the menu and on Today, so you do not have to go looking for them.
    • Optional: a small GitHub Action sends each push to Synapse as it happens, even when the app is closed.
  7. NewImproved

AI in more places, and more dependable

Your local AI now helps in your notes and your inbox, and it copes better when a model answers in an unexpected shape.

    • Find tasks in this note: the AI lists the to-dos hidden in a note and you choose which become tasks.
    • Sort with AI in the Inbox: it suggests a task or a note, and a project, for each capture. You confirm first.
    • Answers wrapped in extra text, or cut short, are now read correctly instead of failing.
    • When the AI is not running, one clear message tells you what to do, with a link to set it up.
    • Everything still runs on your own computer: prompts never reach our servers.
  8. New

    Edit a note together, live

Two teammates can type in the same note at the same time. What one person writes appears for the other within a second.

    • Edits from different people merge automatically, even when you both type in the same paragraph.
    • You can see who else has the note open.
    • No more "someone else saved first" for the text of a note.
  9. ImprovedUnder the hood

Sign-in emails from our own address, stronger passwords

Password-reset and invitation emails now come from noreply@synapse-os.ca, and sign-in is better protected.

    • Emails are signed for our domain, so they are far less likely to land in spam.
    • Stronger password rules and limits on repeated attempts.
    • Backups have a documented restore drill, so a bad day does not become a lost workspace.
  10. NewImproved

    Nova knows your whole workspace

Nova, your local assistant, now sees the big picture: notes, tasks, projects and meetings together, and it answers faster.

    • A compact summary of your workspace goes with every question, so Nova can connect a note to a task to a meeting.
    • A personality file: choose how Nova talks to you, its tone and how long its answers are.
    • Team notes: a shared glossary of terms and nicknames that every teammate’s Nova reads.
    • Short summaries and keywords for each note and task, so searching finds meaning and not only exact words.
    • Meetings now show up in search, and simple questions like counts and lists are answered instantly, with no model call.
  11. New look

A new look: top navigation, Plan and a calmer Today

The app moved from a sidebar to a clean top bar, with a light theme that is easy on the eyes and a phone menu that works with one thumb.

    • Today shows your next action first, then your queue and what waits for your review.
    • Plan brings the week, the month and your meetings into one place, with keyboard navigation.
    • A redesigned Meetings page, a weekly schedule chart and a profile section on your account.
    • Light, dark or follow-my-device themes, with a colourful light mode.
  12. New

Drop box: send files from your phone to your PC

Pick a folder on your computer and drop files into it from your phone, over your own network. Nothing is stored in our cloud.

    • Your folder is remembered, so you only choose it once.
    • Files go straight from your phone to your computer.
  13. New

Meetings: invitations, Find a time and action items

Invite teammates, let them accept, decline or propose another time, and find a slot that suits everyone.

    • Find a time shows when your teammates are free, without exposing what they are doing.
    • Paste meeting notes and your local AI lists the action items; you choose which become tasks.
    • Connect Apple Calendar, import .ics files, and get reminders in the app.
  14. New

    Recruitment board for your team

Track open roles, candidates and scorecards in the same workspace as the rest of your work.

    • Roles, candidates and scorecards in one pipeline.
    • Your local AI can help summarise a candidate, and nothing leaves your computer.
  15. Improved

The app now lives at app.synapse-os.ca

The app has its own address, separate from the website, and the website works in English and French.

    • A clean app address with short page names.
    • Request beta access straight from the website.
    • A French layout that fits as well as the English one.
  16. NewUnder the hood

    Teams, privacy and your data

Create a team workspace, invite people with roles, and stay in control of your data.

    • Team workspaces with owners, admins and members, and single-use invitation links.
    • Delete your account whenever you like; a plain-language privacy page explains what is kept.
    • Data hosted in Canada, with every table protected so one team can never read another’s.
